Summer’s Not Over Yet! – 4 Things to Do from Downtown’s Summer Interns

As the countdown to the school year begins, supply lists are being posted, stores are selling out of three-pronged folders, and children are begging for new backpacks despite the old one working perfectly fine (it’s basically tradition for all families across the nation). With the academic atmosphere on its way to reaching its peak, it’s easy to get lost in preparation and forget to enjoy the freedom of summer vacation. Don’t stress yourself out too much because summer is not over yet! There’s still plenty to do and plenty to see. Here’s four things to do in the final month of summer, curated by our awesome team of UTA interns working with Downtown this season.

Pizza from Cane Rosso

1. Eat at Cane Rosso

Cane Rosso Arlington serves authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas, cooked in wood-fire ovens in less than 90 seconds. In addition to the wide range of pizza dishes available, their menu also includes a variety of salads, sandwiches, and pastas.

Cane Rosso is suggested by Downtown intern Ella Scott, a UTA student and editor at The Shorthorn working towards a degree in Public Relations and Advertising. In her free time, she enjoys watching true crime documentaries, walking her dog, and practicing self-care. If you can relate, then Ella recommends ordering the cheesy garlic bread, CBF pizza, and the Lady Bird dessert pizza.

Ice cream from Rita's

2. Cool Down with Rita’s Italian Ice

Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard is a go-to stop for, you guessed it, Italian ice and frozen custard, however, this restaurant offers much more than the basics. In addition to the treats where they got their namesake, Rita’s serves milkshakes, gelati, slushies, and more.

Aside from interning with Downtown, Carl Raymundo is an Information Systems major and loves photography, roller coasters, and trying new things, which is why he tries a different flavor of Italian ice cream each visit. Carl has also recently tried the Irish Nachos at J. Gilligan’s Bar & Grill and much like most of J. Gilligan’s patrons, adopted a new downtown favorite dish.

Seoul bowl from Namoo Koreanbowl

3. Dine In at Namoo Koreanbowl

Namoo Koreanbowl brings the rich flavor of Korea to Downtown Arlington! With a menu full of diverse options, from fried shrimp to short ribs to kimchi to tofu, there’s something for everybody. Each dish contains mouth-watering flavors enriched with international seasonings, cooking styles, and expertise.

Faith Beene is seeking degrees in Acting and Broadcasting and frequents Namoo often. Her go-to order is the Fresh Ocean Bowl, a dish containing fresh grilled shrimp and teriyaki sauce. When she’s not in class or starring in Downtown’s “Faces and Places” series, Faith enjoys going to concerts and being a UTA Radio DJ.

Bonus: “If ya need a coffee order, I get the Texas Heat at White Rhino

Open burger from Grease Monkey

4. Burger and Chill at Grease Monkey Burger Social Club

Grease Monkey is a staple here in Downtown Arlington. Driving down Center Street you’ll often see crowds of people gathered inside the restaurant or on the patio dining area. Along with the fan-favorite burgers, beers, and appetizers, Grease Monkey frequently hosts live music acts and occasional daily menu items.

When visiting, you might run into Sam Cox, Downtown Arlington intern and 2023 Marketing Management Graduate from UTA. Sam spends his time volunteering at a local animal rescue shelter, going to the movies, and ordering the Country-Fried Burger at Grease Monkey.

Though Summer break may be coming to an end and you, or your kids, will be returning to school soon, there’s still fun to be had and food to be eaten! Check out these Downtown Arlington establishments for some delicious and diverse range of experiences.
