Top 7 Favorite Moments of #MagicofDowntown

As summer comes to a close, we’re already nostalgic about all the fun we’ve had with the #MagicofDowntown collaboration. The Arlington Museum of Art's summer exhibition, Disney Art from Private Collections, inspired a flurry of magic all across Downtown Arlington. From themed cocktails and coffee, to trivia nights, to costumed crawls, to story hours, smiling kids and adults made all kinds of Disney memories at their favorite Downtown Arlington businesses. Let’s reminisce..

1. Karaoke at Hooligans during the Princesses and Villains Bar Crawl

There had to have been Disney princesses in disguise that night, because the singing was beautiful, and the crowd was enchantedly singing along.

2. Packing the house with Trivia at J Gilligans

J Gilligans’ food seating area was filled to capacity when Murfs Trivia challenged even the most dedicated fans with rounds featuring their favorite classics like The Lion King and modern stand-outs like Zootopia.

3. The satisfying THWAK of an axe hitting a Gaston target

Lone Star Axe throwing owner Vikash went all out by hand-drawing Gaston and Beast on signs for the axe throwing event, only for the signs to be demolished by manly men with some sort of vengeance towards these 2 cartoon characters.

4. Mayor Jim Ross spent some time reading childhood favorites at the Museum

You know it’s an important occasion when the mayor shows up. Mayor Ross sat down to read 101 Dalmatians to a group of kids who we know were feeling pretty special.

5. Dreamy sweets at Sugar Bees Sweets Bakery 🤤

Our mouths are still watering over the Snow White salted caramel cake pops, but what we loved even more was the creativity of all our local business owners!

6. Baby Yoda Latte on the secret menu at Inclusion Coffee

Though the menu was secret, it was no secret that the Inclusion drinks were as good as they were cute.

7. Ending the festivities with the Boozy Tea Party at Hooligans

Alice and the Mad Hatter hosted a party to be remembered (or not!) on Saturday night, the last day of the exhibit. Perhaps attendees sipped one of the special menu items, like the Beauty and the Bourbon, or the Simba Sunrise?

From all of us at Downtown Arlington, we want to sincerely thank all the business owners that participated in the partnership, the Arlington Museum of Art for bringing this idea to our staff, and for all of you, the fans, supporters and patrons that keep the magical spirit alive all year long in Downtown Arlington. Congratulations to the Arlington Museum of Art on closing out one of the top most visited exhibits in the museum's history!
