The Cure for Cabin Fever
This winter has had its fair share of highs and lows in terms of temperatures, but this past week, we’ve experienced our worst cold front this season. Businesses, schools, and restaurants were forced to shut down for the safety of their employees and consumers as the snow began to fall and the roads began to freeze. However, now that the storm has passed and you have survived what the internet is calling “Dallaska”, it’s time to get back out there and enjoy everything Downtown Arlington has to offer! Here’s 4 ways you can cure that cabin fever!
4. Try a new restaurant or return to your favorite comfort food
Downtown Arlington is home to a plethora of cuisines and restaurants that offer their own unique take on popular dishes. Chances are you’ve grown tired of eating leftover lasagna and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the past couple of days, so why not introduce your taste buds to the authentic Mexican cuisine served at Los Molcas Bar & Grill or finally get those Irish Nachos you’ve been craving from J. Gilligan’s. As a bonus, many of these locations have outdoor seating for you and your friends and family to unwind and dine and feel the sunshine.
3. Explore the arts
Downtown Arlington has no shortage of venues and destinations where you can indulge your artistic side. Visit the viral TikTok sensation Catalyst Creative Arts and try your hand at a number of inventive art mediums, attend figure drawing lessons at Create Arlington, or catch a show at the Arlington Music Hall; there’s never a dull moment when you’re surrounded by a variety of creative avenues. Also, for all the history buffs and renaissance enthusiasts, the Arlington Museum of Art’s “A Knight’s Tale” exhibit is still going on until February 12th, so be sure to check it out.
2. Go out for drinks and try your luck at trivia
Just in time for the clouds to part ways and the ice to melt away, trivia has returned to Downtown Arlington. Several of your favorite pubs, bars, and breweries are now hosting trivia nights where you and your buddies can get together and test your knowledge against other groups. Trivia has always been a great way for the community to come together and for individuals to meet new people who nerd out about the same things. However, if it’s not your thing, these bars offer great drinks and the perfect vibes for a nice night out with your loved ones.
1. Just have some fun!
The past 3 days have been filled with anxiety and panic as conditions worsened. Fortunately, we held strong and made it through another “Dallaska.” To celebrate and work off all those nerves, you deserve to have some fun, and luckily, Downtown Arlington has plenty of that to go around. Whether your definition of fun is going axe throwing at Lone Star Axe, playing retro arcade games at Free Play, or just simply getting frozen custard with your family and walking around Founder’s Plaza, Downtown is here to help you kick back and enjoy yourself.
Downtown Arlington is a city that runs on the talents and perseverance of its people. Our business owners and entrepreneurs have endured many hardships to get to where they are today, thanks in no small part to you, the people. Your endless support and unwavering pride in this community fuels your neighbors’ ability to weather the storm of uncertainty and come out triumphant. When faced with obstacles, such as harsh weather conditions, business comes to a complete halt as work-from-home is not an option for the bars, restaurants, and cultural arts spaces that make up the Downtown district.
As such, it is important that we show our love and support for these small businesses during these difficult times. The beginning of the year is always rough for everyone, but through our encouragement and our faith in one another, our Downtown Arlington extended family will thrive and have the means to continue serving the community
