Planting the Seeds for the next Big Season in Downtown Arlington
When it’s cold outside in February, Texans get a little grumpy. Sure, we know it’s too early for Spring fever, but we can’t help it, particularly when we get a sneak peek at 80-degree weather in the same week temperatures drop into the 30s.
In Downtown Arlington, we haven’t yet cracked the code for controlling the weather (although those smart researchers at UT Arlington are probably getting close), but we can predict that the coming seasons are going to be ones for the record books! As we speak, we’re sewing the seeds for big debuts, grand re-openings, creative new programs, days filled with outdoor fun, nights filled with live music, and the return of a hometown tradition. Check out our Countdown to Sunshine below for a sneak peek!
Meanwhile, if you’re a Downtown entrepreneur, this not-quite-Spring time is the perfect opportunity to spruce up, fix up, and put out a new welcome mat for your next newest fans.
While we cross our collective fingers for the next warming trend to stick, let’s take comfort in a hot beverage from Inclusion Coffee, White Rhino, or Salter Bros. and start making plans for Springtime (and Summer) in Downtown Arlington.
Downtown Countdown to Sunshine
We can’t wait for you to see Downtown in full bloom.
Theatre Arlington is back, baby! On March 25, 2022, the curtains of Theatre Arlington will go up again as its $3 million renovation is completed in time to kick-off its 49th season! In partnership with LBL Architects and RJM Contractors, the theatre’s transformation includes a new exterior, an expanded lobby and other interior improvements including new dressing rooms, the addition of two new classrooms and a new stage. These much-needed improvements provide enhanced production quality and patron experience and support the company’s efforts to expand its outreach and educational programming. Youth Art Month at the AMA: After taking COVID precautions in 2020 and 2021, Youth Art Month is returning to the Arlington Museum of Art in 2022 as an in-person exhibition! Held in conjunction with National Youth Art Month, AMA and the Arlington Independent School District have partnered to present the city’s annual Youth Art Month exhibition for more than thirty years. Students from every AISD high school and their feeder schools are invited to exhibit a collection of extraordinary work in a variety of mediums. The exhibit runs for six weeks starting in early March.
Music Under the Stars at the Levitt: We’re so ready to grab our picnic baskets, fill them with our favorite to-go items from Downtown Arlington restaurants, and drink in all the live music at the Levitt! Starting in early May, the Levitt will kick off 2022 with a wonderfully diverse line-up of the music we love and new sounds we’re eager to discover.
Downtown Outdoors: Are you ready to get back outside and play? We are too. Relaunching this Spring, follow our Downtown Outdoors platform for all kinds of new ways to enjoy blue skies and clear nights outside in Downtown Arlington.
West Main Arts Festival: What better way to spend the day outdoors than an art festival? Create Arlington presents the best of local visual arts at their annual West Main Arts Festival on May 14, 2022. Not only can you buy original works in all kinds of mediums directly from local artists, but you’ll also enjoy live music, food vendors, and a variety of activities.
Light Up Arlington: We’re excited to learn that Light Up Arlington is returning to Downtown this July after a two-year hiatus due to COVID safety issues. In 2022, the Downtown Arlington team will join forces with the City’s Parks and Recreation department to plan all kinds of patriotic fun! Historically this event draws over 50,000 people, who will be positively wide-eyed when they discover what’s new in the district. If your business is located in Downtown, now is the ideal time to start planning your Independence Day programming and promotions which will complement the festivities and draw new customers through your doors.
2022 Summer Camps and Activities: If it’s not too early to think about Spring, then it’s not too early to think about what your kids are going to do this Summer! Visit Theatre Arlington, Arlington Museum of Art, and Catalyst Creative Arts websites for information about their summer programs for kids.
