May First Thursday returns with exciting new featured attractions
Downtown Arlington’s First Thursday on May 7 puts UTA student talent in the spotlight with a full Fine & Performing Arts Takeover at City Center Plaza.
From 5 to 8 p.m., UTA Fine and Performing Arts transforms the heart of downtown with student- and faculty-led performances across theatre, music, dance, and visual art, creating a live, interactive arts experience all in one space. You’ll even catch live performances from the Theatre Art Department’s recent production of Hair, including “Let the Sunshine In,” at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m.
After that, the creativity continues across downtown with hands-on experiences for all ages, beginning up and down Abram Street.
The Little Art Bus Mobile Art Studio
We’re thrilled to welcome Frost Bank as the May Monthly Sponsor, bringing back the fan-favorite Little Art Bus Mobile Art Studio for an evening of hands-on creativity. Parked right in front of Frost Bank starting at 5 p.m., this colorful, one-of-a-kind mobile studio invites guests of all ages to hop aboard, get inspired, and create something unique.
Whether you're a seasoned artist, bringing the kids, or just looking to try something new, the Little Art Bus is all about exploration, imagination, and fun. Art kits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last, so be sure to stop by early.
Featured Attractions & Experiences Across Downtown
The Art of Letterpress with 4 Acre Press
Join us at Rotary Dream Park for a hands-on journey into the history of printing. Modern letterpress dates to the late 1300s, and while the world has gone digital, the process of locking individual type and image cuts into a press remains unchanged.
In this live demo, you can experience that history for yourself as you create your own custom Downtown Arlington postcard. These prints are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so arrive early to create your handcrafted souvenir.
Street Sounds: Live Music Everywhere

As part of Arlington’s “Music Friendly Community” initiative, Arlington Amplified brings local musicians to the streets of downtown, creating a vibrant, walkable soundtrack for the night. Stop by Commodities to catch a set by Max Segura or head to Abram Alley to see Amanda Clothier perform.
Live Performances & Pop-Up Entertainment
From plazas to parks, live performances will be woven throughout downtown, turning everyday spaces into stages and making every block feel alive with energy.
Interactive Art & Creative Activations
This month leans heavily into hands-on creativity, with experiences like close-up magic from Kex Magic, a Ballet Folklórico performance at the Mineral Well, and additional art-focused pop-ups throughout downtown. Expect opportunities to make, explore, and engage, not just observe.
Business Activations You Won’t Want to Miss
One of the best parts of First Thursdays is how local businesses transform into mini-experiences for the night. May is no exception:

- Art studios and galleries open their doors with interactive experiences, including Sip & Doodle at Inclusion Coffee, and an Open Gallery at StarrStruck Studio & Gallery
- Game nights and social experiences pop up throughout downtown, including Plant Bingo at J. Gilligan’s, Gamer Night at Fool’s Kava House, and Thrifty Thursdays & Game Night at STASH VHS
- Vinyl, karaoke, live music, and nightlife keep the energy going with Vinyl & Karaoke at Truth Serum, an Art & Music Showcase at F6 Art Lounge, Karaoke at Cheba Hut, and Sidewalk Karaoke at Odyssey Barbershop
- Family-friendly activities include DIY Mother’s Day frames at Kung Fu Tea, Sip & Create jewelry making at Rocketbelly, and creative programming at the Downtown Arlington Library
Each stop offers something different, making it easy to build your own perfect night out.
Shop, Sip & Explore
Downtown businesses stay open late with specials, pop-ups, and unique offerings just for First Thursdays. Whether you're grabbing a drink, browsing local shops, or trying something new, every stop adds to the experience.
A Night That Feels Like Arlington

At its core, First Thursdays is about connection between artists and audiences, businesses and visitors, and neighbors and friends. It’s a celebration of everything that makes Downtown Arlington creative, welcoming and full of life.
And with new featured attractions like the Little Art Bus leading the way, May’s event is the perfect time to (re)discover it all.
