“I Just Want to Celebrate” Summer at the Levitt Pavilion

It’s just not summer in Arlington, Texas until the stage of the Levitt Pavilion comes alive with the sounds and sights of live music. Good news! You don’t have long to wait, because the Levitt's 2019 Summer Concert Season kicks off in Downtown this weekend with a fantastic line-up of rocking Texas country, funky New Orleans-style brass, and classic Motown. All for free!

Opening Weekend at the Levitt

The Levitt opens its season on Friday, May 17 with Texas-born musician, singer, songwriter and producer, Deryl Dodd. Known to his die-hard fans as "Double D," Dodd's credits include lead guitarist and background vocalist for Martina McBride. His songs frequently find homes on the Texas music charts.

Rare Earth brings their '70s classic hits like "Get Ready," "I Just Want to Celebrate" and "Born to Wander" to the Levitt on Saturday, May 18. With roots developed in R&B music, Rare Earth has an amazing track record of more than 3,000 concerts plus performances on The Ed Sullivan Show, The David Frost Show, Dick Clark's American Bandstand and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. They’ve performed with Jimi Hendrix, Sly & the Family Stone, and Ike and Tina Turner.

On Sunday, May 19, it's time for a little shout-along musical mayhem with the eight-piece brass sensation, The Soul Rebels. The Rebels are known for taking the New Orleans brass tradition they grew up on and blending it with funk and soul and elements of hip-hop, jazz and rock. They made their national television debut last year on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and when they're not touring, The Soul Rebels have a weekly show at New Orleans' Le Bon Temps Roulé.

Summer Nights

Levitt's Summer Concert Season continues through July 21 with free concerts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday plus the annual Light Up Arlington celebration, this year featuring Soul Track Mind’s front man Donovan Keithand and The Voice’s Hannah Kirby on Wednesday, July 3. All concerts begin at 8:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

A complete summer concert and Family Movie Night schedule is on their website and free mobile app. Downtown Arlington is among the proud sponsors of the Levitt’s 2019 Summer Concert Season.

I Can Go For That

Be sure to get your seats today for the only ticketed event of the Levitt’s concert season. You won’t want to miss it! John Oates will take the stage for An Evening with John Oates & The Good Road Band, at 9:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23. Proceeds from ticket sales will help the Levitt produce more than 50 more free concerts this year.

John Oates, best known as half of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame duo Hall & Oates, has also had an accomplished solo career that includes eight albums. His critically acclaimed Arkansas, which was released last year, originally began as a tribute to John’s idol, Mississippi John Hurt. During a series of Nashville recording sessions, it evolved organically to become a unique collection drawing from a wide range of John’s musical influences.

“It’s like Dixieland, dipped in bluegrass and salted with Delta blues,” said John about the project.

About the Levitt Pavilion

Last year, more than 100,000 music lovers visited Levitt Pavilion, which made its debut in Downtown Arlington in October 2008. The outdoor pavilion, a member of the nationwide family of Levitt Pavilions, provides more than 50 free concerts a year with culturally diverse, family-friendly performances from home-grown country to the latest Indie artists and cool jazz to world music.

This summer, the Levitt will also be hosting a free Family Movie Night which includes screenings of Coco, Sing-Along Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse and Dumplin’.

The Levitt is an outdoor venue with a large lawn. Guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnics, and coolers with beverages. Concessions are sold at the pavilion, including beer and wine.

All summer concerts and Family Movie Nights are family-friendly and free, except for the May 23 performance by John Oates & the Good Road Band which requires a purchased ticket.
