Downtown Arlington Arts, Music and Culture
Arlington is home to a thriving arts and music scene, and Downtown Arlington is at the heart of it all. Locals and visitors alike can immerse themselves in new experiences while taking in exciting shows and checking out all the intriguing artworks housed inside the local galleries and museums.
Many consider this culturally-rich Texas city to be on par with some of the other arts, music and cultural capitals of the world. In fact, in 2016, the Texas Commission on the Arts named Downtown Arlington the Arlington Cultural District and TripAdvisor included the district in its list Downtown America: 11 Awesome Urban Districts Exploding with Character.
“For generations, fine and performing artists and arts organizations have attracted residents and visitors to Downtown Arlington,” said Jeff Williams, Mayor of Arlington. “In the last few years, a groundswell of community support, partnerships and investment is transforming the district into a highly visible cultural magnet for our city.”
Spectacular Performance Venues
Some of the best stage performances ever produced are regularly shown inside the downtown area’s live performance venues. College Park Center, which is located on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington, is a multi-purpose arena that regularly hosts music concerts. Theatre Arlington has been entertaining crowds since the early 1970s with a variety of dramatic and comedic showcases. Arlington Music Hall was built in 1949 and has attracted many world-class performers throughout the years. Some of the most renowned pieces in classical music are regularly performed by members of Symphony Arlington. Free outdoor concerts take place at Levitt Pavilion during the summer and fall months. More great theatrical productions can be seen at the Mainstage Theatre.
Both contemporary and classical art pieces are showcased inside the city’s galleries and museums. The Arlington Museum of Art allows visitors to behold exquisite art pieces while touring through an inviting setting. The University of Texas at Arlington features an art gallery that includes different exhibitions that regularly change throughout the year. More great artworks can be seen inside The Upstairs Gallery, which also offers classes to people who wish to create their own pieces.
Anyone who wants to learn more about the arts and music scene in Arlington will be able to find plenty of options while touring the downtown region. Many of the local venues are easy to locate and regularly welcome guests who wish to experience a different side of this fascinating city.
