About the Doggie Depot

The Doggie Depot is Downtown Arlington’s first-ever off-leash dog park—a place where pups can play and neighbors can connect. Designed with input from the community, this urban oasis offers a safe, welcoming space for dogs of all sizes and their humans.

The park features:

  • ADA accessibility
  • Running water
  • Shaded seating
  • Lighting
  • Dog waste stations
  • Separate play areas for large and small dogs

Whether you're a long-time resident or just passing through, the Doggie Depot is your one-stop station for fun, fitness, and furry friendship.

How the Park Came to Life

The Doggie Depot is a community-powered project made possible by a $75,000 Community Placemaking Grant from Project for Public Spaces and General Motors.

In 2023, Downtown Arlington engaged over 1,000 residents through interactive idea boards to shape the vision for the park.

Top community requests included:

  • Gathering spaces
  • Shaded seating
  • Pet-focused events

These ideas, combined with data from our 2022 Downtown Resident Survey (which showed that 40% of households own a pet), reinforced the urgent need for a dedicated dog space. Before the park opened, downtown lacked any safe, fenced, and pet-friendly green spaces—leading many residents to walk dogs in undermaintained fields or along commercial sidewalks.

The Doggie Depot now fills that gap, transforming a previously unused area into a vibrant hub for community connection and canine joy.

How the Park Was Funded

The Doggie Depot was 100% privately funded through community donations, sponsorships, and grants. Initial funding came from the Project for Public Spaces/GM Community Placemaking Grant, with additional support from: Doreen and Joe Bruner, the University of Texas at Arlington, the LGBT Help Center, Sutton Frost & Cary LLP, the Sargent Family, Graham Associates, the Craven's Family, the Gerro Family, The Chosen One Ink, Laura DiStefano, the Yelverton Family, the Moise Family, Mary Kallus, Texas Trust, Atmos Energy, and Frost Bank.

This Project was proudly underwritten in part by the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation - Contributing to a Thriving Arlington - March 2024.

The initial funding was provided by a “Community Placemaking Grant” for $75K from General Motors and Project for Public Spaces.
