See History Come Alive in Downtown Arlington!

Knapp Heritage Park, dedicated in 2004, contains three of Arlington's oldest structures. This cultural and heritage facility is open to the general public and available for school tours, private tours, and rentals.

The park includes the Jopling-Melear and Watson cabins, dating to the mid-1800s, furnished with authentic period furniture. A one-room schoolhouse constructed in 1910 is also in the park, with the interior looking much like it would have in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The Bardin blacksmith barn and a replica of a general store located in James Knapp's former law office are also onsite. Other items of interest include the original trough bowl for the once-famous Arlington mineral well, a water tower once belonging to the first mayor of Arlington, George Finger, and an early-version windmill.

With its landscaped grounds and green space, Knapp Heritage Park is not just a historical site but a community space located in the heart of Downtown Arlington. The park is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and for special events, inviting the community to explore Arlington's rich history. It is recognized as an Arlington Landmark by the Arlington Preservation Foundation and has three Texas Historical Markers. The site is managed by the Arlington Historical Society.
