Rentable bikes and scooters are rolling into Downtown

Get ready to roll, UTA Mavericks and Downtown Arlington residents!

Beginning mid-October, UTA will launch a new micromobility program in partnership with Veo. This program will provide UTA students, staff and downtown visitors access to rentable, electric scooters and bicycles. This is a sustainable, fun and convenient way to navigate our beautiful downtown!

UTA underwent a competitive selection process and selected Veo to supply and operate the one-year pilot program, launching Friday, Oct. 18, 2024. Through a smartphone app, residents, visitors and UTA students can book an electric bike or scooter to get to Downtown Arlington’s various entertainment, dining, and shopping options or to navigate the 420-acre university campus.

Veo’s Cosmo e-bikes and Astro scooters are perfect for getting to your favorite downtown restaurant, taking our mural tour, or exploring the sights and sounds of Downtown Arlington—all without needing a car. This partnership marks a key step toward enhancing transportation options at UTA while promoting sustainability and safety.

Here are a few things to remember when using these new scooters! Riders should always wear a helmet, yield to pedestrians, and park responsibly. Riders should not be under the age of 18, double ride with another person, ride on sidewalks, or ride under the influence.

How to Ride:

  1. Find your ride: Riders 18+ can locate a nearby Veo scooter or bike using the free Veo app.
  2. Unlock and go: Simply scan the QR code on the vehicle using the app.  You can get unlimited rides for $5.99/month + $0.39/min or single rides are $1.00 to unlock + $0.39/min.
  3. End your ride: Park your vehicle in designated Mandatory Parking Zones, and confirm proper parking by taking a photo in the app.   This will be available at any UTA bike rack.

Tips to Ride:

  • Bicycles are equipped with pedals, a throttle, and basket, making it perfect for carrying your purse or bag. Scooters are great for quick trips and easy to maneuver. Choose the vehicle you’re most comfortable with and consider taking it for a short test ride.
  • Speeds are capped at 15 miles per hour, but special areas are designated as slow zones or no ride zones. Make sure to check your map to know where those areas are. Devices will automatically slow down or stop when you enter the designated slow and no-ride areas.
  • You must park your vehicle in a designated parking area. The Veo app can show you where you are allowed to park. Make sure the device is upright and will not be in the way of doors, ramps, or the travel path.
  • While not required, helmets are recommended for all riders. Only one person is allowed per device. Signal your intent to turn and brake for other road users. All bike and scooter riders must yield to pedestrians and follow all traffic laws.
  • Notice an issue with a device? Contact Veo at 855-836-2256 or hello@veoride.com.
  • Rides are limited to the Micromobility Operational Area, which is roughly bound by Division Street to the North, Collins Street to the east, Park Row Drive to the south and Fielder Road to the west.

Veo has signed a one-year license agreement with the City of Arlington to operate on public rights-of-way. During the one-year pilot, the City will assess the program to determine if it should be renewed in coordination with UTA. The Downtown Arlington Management Corporation will help coordinate parking in the Downtown area and work with local businesses who are interested in allowing scooter and bike parking.
