Nice to Meet You! Introducing Brittney Garcia-Dumas, Downtown Arlington Board of Directors
As the governing body for the Downtown Arlington Business Improvement District (BID), our Board of Directors represents the diverse interests found within our vibrant community. Each member of our Board brings incredible insights to our planning and programming, and we're proud to serve beside them. In our Q&A series, Nice to Meet You, we look forward to introducing you to our newest Directors.
Today we're chatting with Brittney Garcia-Dumas, Founder and Lead Marketing Strategist at BGD Digital Marketing.
Downtown Arlington: What 1-3 things do you love most about Downtown Arlington?
Brittney Garcia-Dumas: 1. I love that I can walk to so many tasty places to eat! 2. I love the Levitt; I can hear it from my balcony! 3. I love the Downtown Library. It has a great children's department, and did you know you can get a passport there?! That's a great resource for the Latino community!
DA: Name a leader in our community who inspires you, then in one sentence, tell me why.
BGD: Not to sound too nepotistic, but I value Maggie Campbell's leadership tremendously. Maggie's "go get 'em" attitude that she wraps in her true desire to take great care of things is inspirational. She is the epitome of a great woman at work!
DA: What is your favorite Downtown building or place?
BGD: My favorite place is my home at 101 Center. I love that my kids are growing up as "city kids" (lol). They get the value of walking to the places you love, being surrounded by so many different cultures and people, and seeing the great things a downtown can offer.
DA: What is your title, and what's your favorite thing about your job?
BGD: Because we have the honor of launching and modernizing businesses, my favorite thing is getting to hear "the original dream," as we call it. I have the great honor of sitting with the owners of businesses that have been in business 30+ years and also owners who are starting their 2nd and 3rd business. Through our branding process, I get to learn about why they started their business... what compelled them to move forward. It is just so cool to hear how deep inside, businesses large and small, are created out of passion to help people.
DA: What inspires you in Downtown Arlington?
BGD: The people. Arlington truly is so diverse!
DA: Outside of your business, what is one of your personal passions (could be a hobby, family, a local philanthropy, etc.)?
BGD: I love my kids and taking them to do fun, young-at-heart things! I also have never met an estate sale I didn't like : )
DA: When you're out for drinks in Downtown, what is your favorite cocktail or hot beverage and where is your favorite spot to order it?
BGD: I am a big fan of Tipsy Oak for their seafood and their patio. Their blueberry "lemonade" is a dream!
DA: When you think about a bright future for Downtown, what one thing do you think will contribute most to its long-term success?
BGD: Walkability. Downtown Arlington, and even Texas as a whole, is motor majority. People need a great landscaping UX to interact with and entice them to walk more in downtown. If there is a clear pathway, if it makes the most sense to walk somewhere instead of drive, people will.
DA: What's your Texas Rangers walk-on song?
BGD: Long Live the Champion by KB : )
