Next Yappy Hour will get tails wagging for downtown’s newest dog park

Our third Yappy Hour fundraiser is coming and is bound to be a howling good time! Join us for this public fundraising event from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 26, at The Tipsy Oak to raise funds for The Doggie Depot, Downtown's newest off-leash dog park.

The Tipsy Oak is generously donating a portion of all sales during the event to support the dog park. Grab a bite to eat, learn about the Doggie Depot and enjoy live music while supporting this great cause. Leashed dogs will be welcome on the patio, but not inside the restaurant.

The Doggie Depot will be Downtown Arlington’s first ever off-leash dog park and serve as a one-stop station for residents and visitors alike to embark on a journey of fun, fitness, and newfound friendship through pet socialization.

Expected to open in November 2024, the park will include ADA access, running water, lighting, dog waste stations, play areas for both small and large dogs, and eco-friendly fencing with mesh openings and an anti-climb design.

The park is a result of a true community need. Arlington has the lowest number of dog parks per capita of any large city in Texas. But the true testament to the need for a dog park is the amount of support the project has received from the community.

Initially, the project was launched by a nationally competitive grant from General Motors, through Project for Public Spaces. Since then, the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation has signed on for the health of Arlington residents (both two and four-legged).

The community has rallied behind the project with generous donations from businesses including Sutton Frost Cary LLP, Atmos Energy and Texas Trust, and local families including the Yelvertons, the Moises, the Bruners and the Cravens. Additionally, over 180 Arlington families have contributed to the Buy a Brick Campaign. Downtown Arlington and our furry friends are incredibly grateful for the Arlington community rallying behind the Doggie Depot.

We still need help raising the final remaining funds at our upcoming events. Don Pendley will be performing live music at The Tipsy Oak during Yappy Hour. Come hang out, mingle with fellow dog lovers and help support this new park for the wellbeing of all downtown dogs!
