Digg’s Caters to Lunch Crowd by Day, Bar Crowd by Night
By Krista Torralva
Josh Bass, 21, and his friends go out every “Thirsty Thursday,” as they call it to kick back and relax. Their bar of choice is Digg’s Taco Shop, located in the College Park District.
Digg’s opened in December, and its laid-back atmosphere, large outdoor patio and bar have attracted mostly college students and young people.
“It’s our new favorite place to go to,” Bass said.
During lunch-time, however, UTA administrators and families can be spotted in the joint on 445 S. Pecan St. Beware that once it’s noon during a week day, the place is crowded and the order line sometimes goes out the big, bright orange doors.
Bass and his friends usually engage in a game of Jenga with the tower Digg’s has on its patio. Or, he said, they'll compete against one another in a beanbag toss, also outside.
“It's more than just a bar. We have a lot of fun there,” Bass said.
Outdoor heaters are out on the patio so people who want to be outside during cold weather can stay warm and toasty.
From time-to-time Digg’s provides live music and has hosted former American Idol and X-Factor contestant Nick McCord.
Bass raves about the tacos, his usual order. But don’t expect traditional Mexican cuisine. Digg’s tacos are almost Baja-style as they offer mahi and Gulf shrimp to go in the tacos.
Check out the menu here. You can order online, too. Food and drink items on the menu range from $3-8.
The Arlington location is one of only two Digg’s Taco Shops. The first Digg’s opened in 2011 in Dallas, near Southern Methodist University. Digg’s has earned praise from Texas Monthly and DFW.com.
