Down on Abram Street, there is a collection of houses that have been around for a considerable amount of time; some were built in the early 20th century. These houses have seen a lot of change throughout the years. Some became fraternity and sorority houses for UTA, but many of them have become salons and spas.
One example of this trend is the Burt Grant SalonSpa, which was one of the first salons to open on Abram Street in the late ‘70s. If there wasn’t a sign out front, one might not realize it’s a salon when looking at the two-story, grey, cozy house and the garden surrounding the perimeter.
Salon manager Jessie O’Briant said when most people are looking for a salon they want to look for a place that has the sleekness and classiness of a high-end salon while at the same time making them feel right at home.
“We want our clients to have more of an experience than just a transaction,” O’Briant said.
Walking into the salon you’re greeted with smiling faces and staff ready to help you with anything you need. The salon is decorated with elegant but homey interior design, giving each room a unique feel. The windows have no blinds to allow more sun into the rooms, allowing a more spacious look while stylists cut their clients’ hair and converse like old friends.
The first floor is designated for hair styling while the second floor is for spa treatment. Although the first does have a homey feel to it, it also looks a lot like a salon whereas the second floor actually looks like a part of a house. Each room has only one massage/facial bed and table to allow full attention and dedication to the client.
O’Briant said clients come to a salon to be taken care of and so they want their clients to have the most relaxing experience they can have at a salon and spa.
The salon is also part of the Maverick Discount Program, which gives a discounted price to students, faculty and staff for any service at the salon.
The combination of friendly faces and homelike atmosphere sets the Burt Grant SalonSpa apart from any other salon, giving its staff a great amount of experience as well as giving full dedication to each and every single person that walks through the door.
“We want to give back to those that give back to us,” O’Briant said.
