UTA Mavericks tear up the court for DAMC Night at College Park Center

Board members, community leaders and guests of Downtown Arlington Management Corporation were treated to a night of thrills, cheers and celebration in College Park Center as the UT Arlington Maverick men’s basketball team overpowered Louisiana on Monday night.

UTA (15-5, 5-2 Sun Belt Conference) led from wire-to-wire in its 14th win in the last 16 games. The 108-71 final score marked the largest margin of victory in series history against Louisiana.

"That was one of the best all-around team performances, by far,” said UTA head coach Scott Cross. “Louisiana was a team that really scared me. I think they had the second-best offense in the Sun Belt coming into the game. But our guys were locked in defensively."

As a part of DAMC Night with the Mavericks, attendees were treated to a pre-game reception and a premium view of the action on the court.

Tony Rutigliano, president and CEO of DAMC, sees the Maverick basketball program as a metaphor for the University itself: a powerful force to be reckoned with.

“The importance of UTA to the vitality of Downtown Arlington can’t be overstated,” said Rutigliano. “The students, faculty, staff and alumni not only energize our district with their creativity, energy, talent and patronage, they stimulate new opportunities through their entrepreneurial activity.”

Stronger together

Through partnerships of all shapes and sizes, UT Arlington and Downtown Arlington will continue to thrive and succeed together. So will the Maverick men’s basketball team -- as well as the women’s, whose skill and strong team spirit is driving an equally excellent season for the team.

After Monday’s game, UTA freshman Scott Muirhead said it best. “It was one of the best feelings. I've never felt something like that, but I'm glad I have teammates that want me to score and get excited for me. It was a lot of fun. I'm thankful to have teammates that are unselfish."
