Mellow Mushroom Pizza becomes Downtown Arlington Hot Spot
By: Cameron Curran
Today I decided to go to Downtown Arlington and grab a bite to eat. There were several good options to choose from but I before I had left my apartment I had made up my mind for Mellow Mushroom Pizza.
To give you a brief history lesson on the brand, Mellow Mushroom began in Atlanta and has more than 120 franchises nationwide. Originally it was founded in 1974 by three college students who saw pizza as more than a food; they saw it as a unique art form. The startup of the company introduced a unique pizza product to the greater Atlanta area in a unique atmosphere.
Soon the brand began to introduce its creative pizza to surrounding states in the form of franchises. Opened in 2011, the Mellow Mushroom location in Downtown Arlington has a great area for outdoor seating. The covered patio area has several tables and speaker locations set up so that people can experience the same atmosphere that is indoors, outdoors. When I visited this location I sat outdoors. It really is a nice area to go at any time, but especially at night.
Over all my experience at the local pizza joint was great. I got one of their specialty pizzas, the House Special, topped with pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, ham, Applewood smoked bacon, mushrooms, black olives, Roma tomatoes, green peppers, onions, and extra mozzarella cheese. I washed it down with a tall glass of Blue Moon with an orange garnish—one of more than 40 beers on tap. (They even have a beer club)
