Mark Your Calendars for Downtown’s Halloweekend!

Spooky season has officially arrived as the countdown to Halloween begins! In only three weeks, families, friends, and goblins will be hitting the streets clad in their best ghostly attire and knocking door to door for tricks and treats from their neighbors. This season is also primetime to kick back, roll yourself up in your coziest blankets, and start your annual marathon of Fall-themed movies. Lucky for you, Downtown Arlington has all the above wrapped up in one weekend! From cinema nights to zombie crawls to outdoor painting, Downtown’s Halloweekend has something for everybody. Here’s your breakdown of how to spend your Halloween holiday this October!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show Showing – October 29

As Halloweekend quickly approaches, we’ve seen you shiver with antici……pation for the one and only cult classic, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show!” If you’re a big fan of the movie, then you probably already know what sorts of shenanigans take place during the screening. From tossing toilet paper to bringing unbuttered toast to yelling out iconic lines, audience participation is not just encouraged, it's mandatory.

If you’re a new resident in Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s mansion, be sure to come with a delightfully twisted and campy sense of humor and be ready to have the best night of your life. Feel free to dress up as a character from the movie or come as you are – it's all part of the Rocky Horror tradition. The event is free, but registration is still required. Click here to reserve your spot today! Stay tuned for more information on the show, including what props are allowed in the theatre, and follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

Disney’s Coco Screening | A Dia de los Muertos Celebration – October 27

Ready for a night that will make you sing from the top of your lungs like you’re un poco loco? Well, you’re

in luck because Downtown Arlington’s Halloweekend kickstarts with a special screening of Disney’s “Coco!” In collaboration with UTA’s Excel Campus Activities, Downtown is showcasing the Oscar-winning musical in Gene Allen Park on October 27th, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The celebration doesn’t stop there! In addition to the movie showing, the Arlington Museum of Art is staying open for their new exhibit, “José Guadalupe Posada: Legendary Printmaker of Mexico,” for people to come and check out Posada’s iconic artwork. After exploring the brand-new exhibit, which opens October 21st, make your way around the site to shop for crafts and artwork from local Mexican artisans while enjoying the sounds of an authentic, live mariachi band.

And for all the foodies out there, be sure to grab a plate or two from on-site vendor Los Molcas Tacos Bar & Grill, a new Mexican restaurant that opened earlier this year and sells high-quality cuisine from tacos to enchiladas to a great selection of drinks. As a sweet treat after indulging in all the savory delights of Los Molcas stop by the Brrbearry Snowcone food truck for a flavorful dessert.

Zombie Crawl – October 28

It’s close to midnight and something evil is lurking in the halls of Theatre Arlington! Under the moonlight we will meet at Theatre Arlington at 7:00PM for a special sight that almost stops your heart! More details on this haunted performance are coming soon. Whether you learned every move to Ghost and Thriller from playing “Michael Jackson: The Experience” with your family or have a spare zombie costume laying around, this event is the perfect opportunity to let loose and bring in the holiday with some of Halloween’s most iconic music and great drinks.

The crawl starts at Theatre Arlington before heading down through Front Street’s bars and restaurants. Participants are encouraged to dress up as the walking dead as they take to the streets of Downtown Arlington. Before the crawl, visit Theatre Arlington for their Creepy Cabaret performance, more details coming soon.

Downtown Impressions: A Plein Air Experience SPOOKY EDITION – October 29

Downtown Impressions is a community-favorite event, welcoming artists of all degrees of experience to join us outdoors to paint the surrounding landscape while enjoying the beautiful weather. Plein air painting is the practice of using the open air and the environment as inspiration for your art by escaping the confines of a traditional art studio.

These special downtown outdoor painting sessions are always led by professional plein air artists and are a great opportunity to explore and experience the unique character of the city. This month’s plein air session, led by Sam Watson, is being held at the Parkdale Cemetery just south of the Chase Bank tower off Mary St. Painters will be able to use this location to craft their own Halloween decorations to hang around the house and showcase throughout the spooky season. Paint kits are available for purchase by clicking here.

Halloween is approaching fast and we’re working to bring you high-quality events all weekend long. Mark your calendars for October 27-29 for Downtown’s Halloweekend, a fun and spooktastic weekend of movies, music, and more! Follow us on social media and subscribe to the Downtown Arlington newsletter for all the latest updates this coming season.
