Beat the Heat in Downtown Arlington This August

As summer winds down, the Texas heat isn't going anywhere. Whether you're planning a family outing, a date night, or simply looking for a cool place to celebrate the end of summer vacation with the family, Downtown Arlington is full of ways to beat the heat this August. 

Start your adventure at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, where the Discover Summer Reading Challenge is still underway until July 31st for readers of all ages. Sign up, log your reading, earn prizes, and make the most of the rest of summer. While you're there, explore the library's Makerspace, featuring 3D printers, sewing machines, embroidery equipment, and other hands-on tools that inspire creativity. 

Looking for a night out? The Downtown Arlington Cultural District offers plenty of opportunities to catch a live performance. Theatre Arlington presents 33 Variations from August 14 through August 30. The compelling drama weaves together the mystery behind one of Beethoven's compositions with a moving story of family, memory, and music. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Arlington Music Hall also keeps the stage busy all month long with concerts spanning country, rock, Americana, and more. August highlights include the Gipsy Kings featuring Tonino Baliardo on August 8 and The Bellamy Brothers’ 50th Anniversary Tour on August 21. presents 33 Variations from August 14 through August 30.

Be sure to mark your calendar for First Thursdays on August 6 from 5–8 p.m. in Downtown Arlington. This month's featured attractions include a free Open House Dance Party at Miss Persis Studio of Dance, with dance parties for adults and children of all ages, plus free Best of Broadway cabaret performances presented by Theatre Arlington at 5:15, 6:15, and 7:15 p.m. Whether you'reready to hit the dance floor or sing along to Broadway classics, there's something for everyone to enjoy. 

Start your day before the afternoon heat settles in with a visit to one of Downtown Arlington's local cafes.
