Title: Connect Create
Artist: Trey Wilder
Completed in: 2018
Partners: Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau, Downtown Arlington
Connect Create by Trey Wilder, which he created in 2018, was inspired by two concurrent movements in Downtown Arlington: coworking and the public art boom.
Coworking or shared workspaces offer a number of benefits to freelancers, developers, artists, consultants, small businesses, and startups. By bringing people together, these spaces spark networking, new ideas and partnerships.Wilder’s Connect Create taps into that energy and cross-pollination through his use of strong shapes and vibrant colors. Most notably, his bold typography visually represents what happens when different skills, ideas, backgrounds, and ambitions come together under one roof. The magic is found in the intersections.
In 2016, the public art boom in Downtown Arlington began in earnest when seven Stars of Texas were installed throughout the Downtown Arlington Cultural District. Since then, Downtown Arlington has proactively sought partnerships with the City of Arlington, local businesses, foundations, and arts patrons to fund over 30 more murals and sculptures.
Connect Create has come to represent the power of public spaces to connect people through art. The murals and sculptures found in Downtown Arlington create immersive, art-centered experiences that encourage people to interact with each other and explore Downtown more deeply. Additionally, the aesthetics and cultures represented in each piece provides a particular insight into the history and character of Downtown, reinforcing its uniqueness and authenticity. It’sno wonder that Downtown’s public art collection is a point of pride for our community.
How could you connect to Downtown Arlington? And once you do, what might you create?
