Summer continues to sizzle with free concerts at the Levitt Pavilion Arlington! Coming your way this weekend:
FRIDAY 7/9: Ruthie Foster (with Vaughn Faison) **Presented by the Texas Commission on the Arts**
Headliner: Grammy-nominated, Austin-grown Ruthie Foster has found herself singing duets with Bonnie Raitt, standing on stage with the Allman Brothers at New York’s Beacon Theater, and trading verses with Susan Tedeschi. Her latest album, “Joy Comes Back”…described as “some folk, some blues, some soul, some rock, and some gospel”…illustrates Ruthie’s genre-spanning talent.
Opening Act: Vaughn Faison is a singer/songwriter whose roots lie primarily in the soul, jazz, and folk genres. In addition to a solo career, he’s a member of the band Kings Return, which recently collaborated with Apple and the Billie Holiday Theatre.
SATURDAY 7/10: Micky & The Motorcars (with Hankins Band)
Headliner: Pop the hood of “Hearts From Above,” the seventh album from Austin-based roots Micky & The Motorcars, and you’ll find a “brand-new engine, fine-tuned and good to run for many more miles still ahead”…a celebration of where the long-running roots rockers have been, where they’re headed, and where they are right now.
Opening Act: This Saturday night at the Levitt features an unusual treat: an opening concert by local musicians Josh Hankins (the current chair for Levitt Pavilion Arlington) and his wife Heather Hankins. The guitarist and singer-songwriter have been making music together for more than 14 years.
SUNDAY 7/11: Sue Foley (with Simon Foley)
Headliner: No doubt that Sue Foley’s Sunday night Levitt show will feature highlights from her new album, which offers a “raw, electric guitar-driven romp through the backroads of Texas blues, with Foley’s signature pink paisley Fender Telecaster (‘Pinky’) at the wheel.”
Opening Act: Fort Worth-based Simon Flory’s music has been described as “a stew of early country, gospel, and the best of classic Nashville”, reflecting essential elements of his Indiana youth.
All shows begin with an opening act at 7:30 pm (unless otherwise noted); headliners go on at 8:30 pm. Well-behaved pets on leashes are welcome, but please consider concert volume with respect to your pet’s sensitive ears.
