On the Road Again (and We Can’t Wait!) Weekly Message from Maggie Campbell, President and CEO of DAMC

And we just can’t wait to be in Downtown again!

With the tune of Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again" firmly implanted in our brains, we just can’t wait to welcome you to On the Road Again, the name and theme of the Downtown Arlington 2020 Annual Meeting! The streaming event is this Thursday, September 10 beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Downtown Arlington TX Facebook Live.

Here are ten reasons you won’t want to miss it:

1. We love the arts in Downtown, so what better way to salute our country, our city and our hometown heroes than with special live musical tributes and some rockin’ walk-in and walk-out musical performances. 
2. From the very founding of our organization, the City of Arlington and The University of Texas at Arlington have been committed to our shared vision for Downtown as a place where “creativity, authenticity, and hometown pride thrive and drive what's next." Hear from Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams, UTA Interim President Dr. Teik Lim, and DAMC Board Chair Amy Cearnal.
3. Surprise! When your Legendary Lionheart Award winner is as deserving as ours, why wouldn’t you video tape his or her reaction to hearing the news for the first time, right in his/her place of business? Join us in congratulating this year’s honoree, a local businessperson whose entrepreneurial energy and dedication to Downtown Arlington has become legendary.
4. Another surprise! Watch the video of us surprising the 2020 winner (or is it winners?) of our Golden Lantern Award, our salute to a non-profit organization, public servant or community member who has served our community this year with kindness and empathy. 
5. The highly-anticipated Dream Builder Award honors outstanding leadership and contributions to our community over time. This year’s winner had the vision to see the future in Downtown and the fortitude to make his/her dreams come true. You’ll get to see us surprise this year’s honoree, too!
6. Since this year’s event is free and easily accessible online, invite your friends to join us! The more people who discover all that Downtown Arlington has to offer, the more likely our community can survive the economic realities of the COVID-19 pandemic.
7. Turn “On the Road Again” into a virtual happy hour, a place to meet up with your friends and share the experience together! Plan ahead with Downtown Delivers to pre-order items to-go, for curbside pick-up, or delivery, and ask your favorite Downtown Arlington restaurant or pub about their Annual Meeting specials. 
8. Fans of our Downtown Arlington Roots series will enjoy playing our Downtown Trivia Challenge which will take place in the live chat throughout the program. Put your knowledge of Arlington history up against the best of the best!
9. While we can’t wait for you to see our year-in-review videos as well as our look ahead to 2021 (and who isn’t ready for that?), but really, it’s all about the bloopers.
