Thanksgiving @ Mission Arlington and Other Ways to Share Holiday Cheer

This Thanksgiving and always, when we count our blessings, the creativity and generosity of our Downtown Arlington community is always at the top of our list. As you make virtual and in-person holiday plans with family and friends this year, we hope you'll consider joining efforts taking place in Downtown to serve local families who need a helping hand. Additionally, with social distancing practices firmly in place, many of our restaurant partners are offering Thanksgiving feasts and treats to make your holiday delicious.

GIVING THANKS

The economic impact of the coronavirus on working families in Arlington has been significant and persistent. Downtown partners invite you to join them in helping our neighbors in their time of need.

On a Mission

Thousands of volunteers are once again being sought to help Mission Arlington in Downtown Arlington serve families in need a bountiful Thanksgiving dinner.

While volunteers are asked to wear masks this year, the 2020 Thanksgiving @ Mission Arlington doesn't look all that different than in previous years. Food donations are being sought (click here for a list of foods needed). Volunteers are needed in the days and weeks leading up to Thanksgiving to sort and box donations, create delivery maps, and much more. On Thanksgiving morning, volunteers will be needed from 8:00 a.m. until at least noon to deliver meals. All volunteer activities will be planned to take place either outdoors or from individual cars. You're welcome to just show up at Mission Arlington on Thanksgiving morning; groups are asked to call 817-277-6620, ext. 6160 in advance.

Serving up the Worx on Thanksgiving

Union Worx is offering free co-working on Fridays in November when you contribute to their food drive. Simply bring two non-perishable food items Friday November 6, 13 or 20 and your day pass is on the house. Donations will go to Mission Arlington.

Having a (Margarita) Ball

Join the Arlington Margarita Society and give some Christmas cheer to children in need within our city. Although the Society won’t be hosting their 38th annual Margarita Ball inside this year, they will be celebrating outside and doubling the fun by hosting consecutive events in two great outdoor venues. The first evening of the AMS 2020 Toy Drive and Social Event will take place at Texas Live!, and the second evening will be hosted by the Levitt Pavilion in Downtown Arlington.

On Saturday, Nov. 21, come by the Levitt any time between 4:00-9:00 p.m. to contribute to the Drive-By Toy Drop hosted by Santa Cops of Arlington. Any new, unwrapped toy $30 minimum value) is welcome, and for each toy donation, you'll receive a ticket good for one margarita (21 and older, please) at the Social Event.

After dropping off your donation, park anywhere nearby to attend the event on the Levitt lawn. Enjoy margaritas (of course) plus live music by the Party Machine and Margaritas. For more information, including how to participate if you can't attend the event, visit the Arlington Margarita Society

Love in Action

Several congregations and organizations, including First United Methodist Church, are showing "Love in Action" this season with a Thanksgiving food drive for families in our community to benefit Arlington Charities. Click here for details about shopping for the food drive or for information about receiving food. Donations can be dropped off at FUMC on November 11 between 9:00 a.m. and noon or you can donate directly to Arlington Charities, 811 Secretary Drive, Arlington TX, 76015.
