K9 Memorial Monument

The K9 Memorial Monument is a life-size bronze sculpture that honors retired and fallen service dogs of the Arlington Police Department and the Arlington Fire Department. It depicts two specific dogs standing side by side in unity, loyalty and vigilance: German Shepherd Officer Mojo of APD and Labrador Retriever Officer Brickman of AFD.

The monument pays tribute to the often-unseen work of K9 units, inviting visitors to reflect and honor the four-legged members of their public safety teams. Within the monument, the dogs stand on a carved stone base with a plaque that reads: “The bond between a K9 and handler is of eternal trust in a language unique to them alone. We are forever grateful for their numerous acts of courage to protect and defend.”

The K9 Memorial Monument was dedicated on November 11, 2020. It was funded entirely by private donations totaling nearly $65,000.

About the Artist

Seth Vandable is a Texas-based artist whose career has spanned from commercial art and illustration to figurative bronze sculpture. He is a Fellow of the National Sculpture Society and has completed numerous large-scale commissions across Texas and beyond.

Known for capturing the intensity of the human spirit, Seth’s compositions are both innovative and timeless. He often explores themes of service, memory, and heroism in his work, using bronze to dynamically give form to emotions like gratitude and esteem. In the K9 Memorial Monument, for instance, Vandable’s attention to realistic detail, stance, and presence allows viewers to see the dogs as respected public servants.

Another sculpture by Seth Vandable is located in Downtown Arlington. Entitled The Gift, it depicts a man teaching a young boy to play the guitar. The Gift can be found at the Levitt Pavilion.
