Many of our favorite Downtown Arlington hot spots, hang outs and party headquarters are getting together to offer you a tasty new monthly event series: the Downtown Arlington Wine Walk.
Launching on Saturday, March 23, 2019, the series will take place on the fourth Saturday of every month. In March, about a dozen locations will participate in the Wine Walk including Division Brewing, Maverick’s Sports Bar, Jack’s Chicken Shack and Urban Alchemy Coffee + Wine Bar (see complete list below). Hooligan’s Pub is serving as “home base” for the Wine Walk, where the event will begin at 3:00 p.m. and end at 6:00 p.m.
Walk This Way
Matt Randolph, founder of SOCIAL’d IN and promotional partner for the series, sees the Downtown Arlington Wine Walk as a way for people to discover more Downtown destinations by connecting the dots between them. “Not only can newcomers sample a dozen great Downtown locations in one afternoon, but locals can experience their favorite places in a new way. Plus everyone gets to try a different selection of really delicious wines every month!”
For a low advance ticket price of $12 ($15 at the door), you’ll receive admission to the Wine Walk and a collectible wine glass to keep. When you purchase your ticket, you’ll also be automatically entered into a raffle for chances to win fun Downtown prizes. Needless to say, the Walk is open only to adults who are 21 and older with a valid ID.
On March 23, head over to Hooligan’s Pub to pick up your wine glass, wrist band and suggested route map. Be sure to bring your wine glass with you throughout the Wine Walk to receive a 2 oz. tasting pour at every participating location. Raffle winners will be announced at Hooligan’s Pub at 6:00 p.m.
Walking the Wine Line
Event organizers understand that construction currently taking place along Abram Street might pose a challenge for Wine Walk participants. They have a plan to address that.
“Doing the Wine Walk during so much construction is actually a great opportunity,” said Matt, “and we know that once people give the Walk a chance, they’ll want to come back again and again — both during and after the Abram St. revitalization is complete. In the meantime, we’re recruiting volunteers to help participants cross Abram safely and at the proper intersections. Along with that, participants will receive a map that not only identifies the businesses that are involved but highlights the best route that avoids as much of the construction as possible.”
While twelve participating locations is already an ambitious start, organizers are looking forward to expanding the Wine Walk in future months to include other Downtown favorites like J.R. Bentley’s, Old School Pizza, Sanford House, and the growing number of restaurants and bars in Urban Union.
“We’re looking into how we can utilize the Arlington Trolley or Via Arlington in a way that’s convenient and cost effective for participants,” Matt said. “Ultimately, our goal is that our Walk will continue to change up and become even more lively each month. We don’t want this to just be a normal Wine Walk; we’re going to integrate different themes to keep things interesting and throw in a few unexpected twists.”
Walking the Walk
“The idea for a Wine Walk originated over a year ago,” said Matt, “and I’m so happy that we’ve brought this idea into a reality. Hosting a large-scale, monthly event is a great way for businesses to pull together as a part of Downtown Arlington’s overall revitalization and to actively participate in community-building.”
The enthusiasm and excitement among the Downtown partners is through the roof!” Matt continued. “Downtown Arlington has grown tremendously, and it’s because of the amazing people who have brought so much life and energy to it.”
