It’s a Match! A Guide to Finding Your Perfect Patio in Downtown Arlington

Now that sunny days and breezy nights are (hopefully) here to stay, we officially declare the return of patio weather! Patio-hopping has never been better in Downtown Arlington, thanks to the rapid increase of outdoor seating options over the last few years.

We think you should try them all, of course, but it can be hard to know where to begin. To get you started, here’s our unofficial Downtown Arlington Patio Personality Guide:

Fan Central: Meeting friends before or after the big game? Or prefer to watch from the comfort of a barstool? Whether you’re root-root-rooting for the Rangers, Cowboys, Mavericks or Wings, Downtown Arlington is your perfect home base. Maverick’s Sports Grill, The Tipsy Oak, Cartel Taco Bar, Old School Pizza and Suds, Flying Fish, and Grease Monkey Burger Shop and Social Club have great indoor-outdoor seating options, full bar, and delicious pub-style dining without the “grub.” If you are heading to the ballpark or stadium, Maverick’s, Grease Monkey and J. Gilligan’s offer game-day shuttles too.

East Meets West: Quite possibly our favorite patio is actually a revitalized alley that connects Truth Vinyl, Namoo Korean Bowl, Twisted Root Burger Co. and Hooligan’s Pub. Outfitted with picnic tables and adorned with trees, a mural, and cozy lighting, this special space allows for a comingling of cuisines and drinks from the pub along with regular live music events (not to mention DIY deejaying stations) hosted by Truth Vinyl.

Pursuit of Hoppiness: Anchored by Legal Draft Beer Co. and Division Brewing, Downtown Arlington has become a craft beer lovers dream. The patios at Legal Draft and Division are very different from each other aesthetically, yet you’ll find them equally suited for meeting friends, listening to live music, and tasting amazing beer.

Whistle While You Work: Start-ups, small businesses, and other entrepreneurs are abuzz about Downtown’s three coworking communities, PinnStation, CenterSpace and Union Worx. Only Union Worx, however, combines laptop time with sunshine by providing a large outdoor patio to its clients and others looking for a unique event space.

Hawaiian Shirt Day Everyday: Although its outdoor patio is small, you could make the argument that the vibe inside 4 Kahunas Tiki Bar is as mellow as a summer’s day on the beach. Their tropically tantalizing drink selection is equally transformative.

Wine Dining: A charcuterie board or light bite, a fresh-made dessert, and a bottle of wine to share? Yes, please. The patio at Urban Alchemy Coffee and Wine Bar is at your service.

Fish and Chips and Salsa: What complements that Friday afternoon on the patio as well as fish and chips? Chips and salsa! In Downtown Arlington, you can enjoy both. Relax on the nicely-tucked patio at J.R. Bentley’s English Pub or kick back in the shade at Fuzzy’s Taco Shop. Either way, don’t skimp on the chips.

Fresh Air, Fresh Veg: Our list of outdoor dining just wouldn't be complete without a hearty shout out to the Downtown Arlington Foodies Farmer's Market, which takes place from 2-6:00 p.m. on the second Saturday of every month adjacent to Legal Draft in Urban Union.

Breakfast Al Fresco: Get some vitamin D with your vitamin C on the patios of Sugar Bee Sweets BakeryPanera Bread, Starbucks and Down to Earth in the College Park District; Urban Alchemy; Fuzzy's Tacos: and other Downtown breakfast locations.

Fido-Friendly:  All of the restaurant patios and Farmer's Market in Downtown Arlington are dog friendly, as long as your four-legged friend is well-behaved and keeps you safely on your leash.
